Hotel staffers were serving liquor and hookah to customers till 3.30 am
NAGPUR Police raided Hotel Tuli Imperial in Ramdaspeth area in the wee hours of Friday for hosting a late night party and violating Epidemic Diseases Act. Cops have booked two owners of the hotel, one manager and 67 customers including 19 women. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Detection, Gajanan Rajmane, who was on night patrol, found that men and women were being served hookah and liquor in the small hours.
The accused have been identified as hotel manager Sanjay Mukundrao Pendse (39), a resident of Prasad Nagar, Jaitala; owner Mohabbat Singh Tuli, a resident of Bokahar and Bachindar Singh alias Kuku Tuli, a resident of Mangalwari fly-over, Nagpur. DCP Rajmane told ‘The Hitavada’ that he received a tip-off about the late night party after which he called staff of Sitabuldi, Bajaj Nagar and nearby police stations along with teams of Crime Branch to conduct the raid.
When the police entered the hotel at 3.30 am, they were stunned to see boys and girls consuming liquor, dancing on loud music and smoking hookah in the corridor of the hotel and rooftop. The police action created chaos among those present and they tried to escape from the spot. However, police conducted checking in the premises of the hotel, including rooms and caught hold of the revellers.
According to DCP Rajmane, the hotel has permission to serve 120 customers on the rooftop. However, more than 300 customers were being served. As per the norm, the bar was to close at 11 pm. However, the hotel staff was serving liquor late in the night. DCP Rajmane said that every room of the hotel was booked in names of more than 12 customers. After nabbing 67 customers, the police sent their blood samples to the hospital and released them in the morning hours.
An offenc under Sections 21 (a) of COTPA, Sections 188, 269, 270 and 34 of Indian Penal Code, read with Section 51 (b) Disaster Management Act, Sections 33 and 131 of Mumbai Police Act and Section 68, 85 of Maharashtra Prohibition Act and Section 3 of The Epidemic Act was registered against the accused at Sitabuldi police station. Under the guidance of CP Amitesh Kumar, the action was taken by DCP Gajanan Rajmane, ACP P S Karyakarte, PIs Sarthak Nehte, Vinod Patil, Gajanan Kalyankar, Vikas Dindure, PI Sitabuldi Atul Sabnis, PI Smita Patil, API Varsha Bambe, Suraj Suroshe, Bayaji Kurale, Prashant Annachhatre, Pawan More, PSI Hemant Thorat and staff including Anand Kale, Vinod Gaikwad, Samadhan Gite, Mrudul Nagre, Nitin Salunkhe, Santosh Gupta, Amin Jasod, Ashwin Mange, Sameer Sheikh, Kapil Tandekar, Vikas Pathak, Excise Inspector Keshwar Choudhary and others.
