Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that holy Narmada is lifeline of Madhya Pradesh. With blessings of Maa Narmada happiness and prosperity comes in State. Joint efforts are required to make Amarkantak, the origin of Narmada river, clean and beautiful. He said that stern steps will be taken to ensure that dirty water and garbage does not mix with the river water.
 
With public support, cleanliness, beauty and purity of the origin will be maintained. He was addressing a programme organised to lay the foundation of development works costing Rs 49.98 crore in Amarkantak and other development works of Amarkantak under Prasad Yojana of the Government of India on Thursday. He said that holy city Amarkantak has been a place of meditation for seers. It is our mutual responsibility to maintain its purity. Citizens and saints of Amarkantak region should ensure that holy river does not get dirty. He said that Narmada Water Treatment Plant should be completed in next six months and plantation should be done in coastal areas of Narmada. He instructed district administration to ban concrete construction works and cement-concrete works in Amarkantak. He said that environment of Amarkantak region will be balanced scientifically.
 
“We are making efforts to conserve and promote Narmada river, so that the incessant flow of river continues,” he told. On this occasion, Union Minister of State for Tourism and Culture, Prahlad Singh Patel, Minister of Culture, Tourism and Spirituality, Usha Thakur, Minister of Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Minister Bisahulal Singh, Minister of Tribal Affairs and Scheduled Castes Welfare Sushri Meena Singh, MP Himadri Singh and public representatives were present.
