A tigress was killed by poachers at compartment number 1104 of Bamhni beat in Khapa circle of Kanha Tiger Reserve on January 26. The tigress was killed after being strangulated with a trap of clutch wire. Investigating the case, the forest team has arrested six suspects involved in laying trap for poaching of wildlife.
Forest Department registered a case under Sections 9, 51 and 52 of Wildlife Protection Act 1972 while further investigations are underway. Investigating the case, forest team found that none of the organs, nails, hair and canine was missing.
After learning about the carcass of a tigress, senior officers, including Senior Veterinarian Dr Sandeep Agrawal, NTCS representative Shravarna Goswamy, Wildlife Institute, Dehradun (Wildlife Protection)’s affiliated Corbett Foundation’s Priya Barekar reached the spot. Veterinarians conducted autopsy on carcass on the spot and preserved viscera for forensic and histopathological investigation.
The carcass was set ablaze at the park as per standard operation procedure of NTCA in presence of CCF Balaghat Circle, Deputy Director of Kanha Tiger Reserve, Assistant Director, Malanjkhand and representatives of NTCA and Corbett Foundation.
