Blue win in Super Over; Team Red and Team Green lose their last league matches but qualify for semi-finals

TEAM Green was on the receiving end in Super Over twice in three days. Sky Blue had pipped Green in Super Over on Saturday while Blue got the better of them on Tuesday. In a high-scoring last league match of the Twenty20 cricket tournament organised by VCA at Jamtha Stadium on Tuesday, both teams ended scoring an identical 181 runs. In the ensuing Super Over, Green’s Shubham Dubey hit fours boundaries and a six to collect 23 runs from a Nachiket Parande over. Blue batter Kushal Pimpalkar (20*; 1x4, 26) faced all of Rajneesh Gurbani’s deliveries including three wides as the team scored 24. Incidentally, Pimpalkar was out for four-ball duck in their innings. Earlier, Blue opted to bat and opener Satyam Bhoyar (101; 60b, 8x4, 5x6) slammed a hurricane hundred in what was an inconsequential match for them. He got able support from skipper Shalabh Shrivastava (42; 37b, 5x4) as the pair added 81 runs for the second wicket. Seamer Gurbani was the most successful bowler claiming two wickets for 35 runs while Aditya Khilote and Manan Dosi picked one apiece to share the wickets. Green were off to a disastrous start in pursuit of a big target. By the fourth over, top three were back in hut with scoreboard reading 29.

Left-arm pacer Suraj Rai (2-19) removed both the openers Atharva Taide and Aman Khan while Parande (2-32) removed Tushar Gill. Middle-order batsmen Shreeyog Pawar (80*; 49b, 8x4, 2x6) and Shubham Dubey (58; 39b, 5x4, 3x6) joined forces to stitch a huge 129 runs partnership. By the time the overs were exhausted, Green had levelled the score losing five wickets. Yellow end with consolation win In the morning game, Team Yellow defeated Team Red by ten runs. Yellow won flip of the coin and decided to make first use of the track. The team had a worst possible start as both the openers — Siddhesh Dandewar and Aniruddha Choudhary departed without troubling the scorer. Left-handed Shivam Deshmukh (46; 43b, 6x4) and Tushar Kadu (20; 17b, 2x4) did not take much risks and provided some stability to the innings. Captain Akshay Wadkar (36; 33b, 3x4, 1x6) and southpaw Yash Kadam (26*; 17b, 1x4, 1x6) ensured that the team had something to bowl at. Yellow made 143-7.

For Red, Nachiket Bhute and Himanshu Joshi snared two wicket each giving away 28 and 29 runs respectively in their quota of four overs. Left-arm spinner Parth Rekhade picked one for 18 from his tight four-over spell. Red began the chase in right earnest with Akshay Kolhar (17) and in-form Aman Mokhade (43; 39b, 2x4, 2x6) giving the team yet another good start. But Yellow bowlers stuck to good line and length taking wickets at regular intervals and shot out the opponents in last over at the score of 133. Mehul Raikwar, Siddhesh Dandewar and Ganesh Bhosale snared two wickets each while Kadam removed dangerman Jitesh Sharma. Kadam, who also took two catches, was declared man of the match.
