Mhaisalkar, Dr Pathan to receive Ram Shewalkar Literature Award

Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Mahamandal has declared the names of Scholar of Saint literature Dr Y M Pathan from Aurangabad and Manohar Mhaisalkar from Nagpur for the prestigious Principal Ram Shewalkar Literature Award. The family members of Ram Shewalkar had constituted the annual award in the memory of Principal Ram Shewalkar. The award having cash prize of Rs one lakh is being given to prominent writer, poet, literature scholar, speaker, scholar of Saint literature etc. The award for 2020-2021 was announced to Dr Y M Pathan but due to the pandemic the same was not given. Similarly, for 2021-2022, Mahamandal has selected Manohar Mhaisalkar for the award. The award of Rs one lakh each with shawl, sreefal and bouquet will be given soon. President of Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahiya Mahamandal, Kautikrao Thale Patil has announced the awards at Aurangabad. Secretary Dr Dada Gore and Treasurer Dr Ramchandra Salunkhe also were present.
 
Manohar Mhaisalkar is President of Vidarbha Sahitya Sangh for last 10 years. He was General Secretary of Vidarbha Sahitya Sangh (VSS) in 1982 and for few years President of Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Mahamandal. Mhaisalkar is working for VSS since last 38 years. VSS which has 40 years of history and is incomplete without Mhaisalkar. The selection committee has acknowledged his dedication for the building of VSS. Dr Yusufkhan Mohamadkhan Pathan, popular as Dr Y M Pathan, is an authority on Marathi saints. He was born on March 1, 1930. He has been Head of Department, Marathwada University, Aurangabad. In 2007, he received Padma Shri for excellence in literature and education. Dr Pathan has penned about 20 books on Saint literature and authored 40 other books. He was President of the 63rd Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan held in Pune.
