Govt acts tough in Bhopal hospital tragedy

Taking a tough action in the hospital fire incident which claimed lives of four infants, a decision has been taken to remove Dr Jitendra Shukla, Dean of Gandhi Medical College, Dr Lokendra Dave, Superintendent of Hamidia Hospital, and Dr K K Dubey, Director of Kamala Nehru Hospital, from their posts and are facing suspension. Besides, Deputy Engineer of CPA Electricity Wing Awadhesh Bhadoriya has also been suspended. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that incident which took place at Kamala Nehru Hospital is a case of criminal negligence. The guilty will be removed, action will be taken against them, no guilty will be spared. Additional Chief Secretary (Health and Medical Education) Mohammad Suleman has been entrusted with the responsibility of probing the incident. He said that all the facts related to the incident should be brought before the public.
 
The Government has nothing to hide in this case. He was addressing a meeting regarding the tragic incident at Bhopal’s Kamala Nehru Hospital with ministers and senior officers at Mantralaya. He said that critically ill children are kept in SNCU. Sick New Born Care Unit (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit). A campaign will be launched in the State to avoid such incidents in future. He directed that it should be made mandatory for the Government and private hospitals to conduct fire and electric safety audit within the time limit. All district collectors will review the fire and electric safety and other rescue and security arrangements of all government and private hospitals and medical colleges in their districts in the next 10 days. He said that the system of management and treatment would be separated so that doctors in Government hospitals can focus completely on treatment. A separate cadre will be created for the management and maintenance of the hospitals. He said that there should be no duplication of agencies in the management of civil work, electrical system, maintenance of equipment etc. of hospitals. Home Minister Narottam Mishra, Health Minister Praburam Chaudhary, Medical Education Minister Vishwas Sarang, Minister Bhupendra Singh, Chief Secretary Iqbal Singh Bains, DGP Vivek Johari, ACS (Health) Mohammad Suleman attended the meeting.
