Faiz makes U-19 challenger debut

 

 

 

VIDARBHA’S young and promising left-handed opener Faiz Sheikh made his debut in the ChallengerTrophy Men’s Under-19 One-Day Limited Overs Tournament at Narendra Modi Stadium Ground ‘B’, Motera, Ahmedabad on Tuesday. Representing India C on opening day of the six-team tourney, Faiz made 21 from 50 balls in his team’s six-wicket loss to India D. India D chose to field first.Vasu Vats (7-1-30-4) started with a bang removing opener Dharmveer Saini and B Sachin both caught at the wicket by Varun Nayanar for no score in the first over itself. Making his debut and after looking at twin dismissals from the other end, Faiz dropped anchor.

 

He and Aryan Dalal (47) took the score to 73 before the former was clean bowled by Priyanshu Moliya. Team C were shot out for 201 in 48 overs. Team D chased the target in 47.2 overs losing four wickets. Skipper SK Rasheed was unbeaten on 79. The only other Vidarbha player selected for the Challenger Trophy, Danish Malewar did not find a spot in the playing XI in Team E (197-5) that defeated India F (193-9) by five wickets with three overs remaining.
