FOUR Central Reserve Police Force personnel were killed and three others injured when a CRPF constable opened fire at them in 50th battalion of CRPF Linganpalli camp under Maraiguda police station limits. The incident occurred at around 3:15 am on Monday and deceased CRPF troopers have been identified as Constables Dhanji, Rajib Mondal, Rajmani Kumar Yadav and Dharmendra Kumar. The injured CRPF personnel are Dhananjai Kumar Singh, Constables Dharmatma Kumar and Malaya Ranjan Maharana. The accused trooper Ritesh Ranjan has been arrested and he is being questioned by the CRPF and police to know the reason behind the CRPF trooper’s abrupt behaviour. It is reported that Ranjan was supposed to join his sentry duty from 4 am onwards. After getting ready for duty, he randomly opened fire on other troopers sleeping in the barrack.
 
Three CRPF personnel died on the spot while four others were injured in the gun fire and rushed to Bhadrachalam hospital. One more trooper died in hospital, making the total count of deceased personnel to four. As per police, out of four deceased troopers, three are from Bihar and one from West Bengal. Out of three injured, two have been airlifted to Raipur and one is being treated in Bhadrachalam. Learning the incident, CRPF IG Prakash D, Additional SP Konta Sachindra Choubey, Bastar IG Sundarraj P, Collector Vineet Nandanwar and SP Sunil Sharma reached Linganpalli camp and enquired about the incident.
 
The SP said that accused CRPF trooper Ranjan has been arrested and charged under section 302 of Indian Penal Code besides relevant sections of the Arms Act. Ranjan is being interrogated to comprehend what went wrong, added the SP. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has expressed grief over the unfortunate incident in Sukma district. He has asked the police officers to take all necessary measures to ensure that such incidents do not recur. Chief Minister expressed condolences to troopers who died in the incident and issued necessary instructions for better treatment of the injured persons.
