In rural area, the classes from Std 5 to Std 7 will open as decided earlier
Classes of Std 8 to Std 12 will continue
Due to concern over new variant of novel coronavirus ‘Omicron’, Municipal Commissioner Radhakrishnan B has postponed the opening of schools for Class 1 to 7 till December 10, 2021 in city. Taking a cue from the decision of Maharashtra Government in Mumbai, Pune and Nashik, NMC also toed the same line and announced deferring of earlier decision about restarting of physical classes in city. However, classes of Std 5 to Std 7 in rural areas would start from Wednesday as per the decided schedule, said Collector Vimala R. The classes of Std 8 to Std 12 that were started recently would continue. After reviewing the situation regarding COVID-19, further order will be issued in this regard after December 10, Municipal Commissioner said in order issued on Tuesday. After opening of colleges there was a lot of pressure from the parents about restarting physical classes for 1st to 7th students.
These students have not attended schools since almost one and a half years and parents were worried about the education standard of their wards. Though they were insisting on re-opening of schools for Primary and Middle classes the surfacing of new variants of COVID-19 added to their worries. Hence many parents were in dilemma whether to send their wards to school or continue with the on-line education. Zilla Parishad’s Education Officer (Primary) has issued an order regarding starting schools in rural areas, late on Tuesday night. Schools from 5th to 12th in rural areas and 8th to 12th in urban areas in Nagpur district have already started regularly. 2014 schools in rural areas, municipalities, Nagar Panchayats are restarting from tomorrow.
The decision has been taken after getting approval from them. All the teaching and non-teaching staff is required to be fully vaccinated. Instructions have been issued to schools about holding the classes in two sessions and strictly maintaining the norm social distancing. The Government of Maharashtra had instructed to start schools from class I to VII. According to a new circular issued by the Education Department on Tuesday, regular classes from 1st to 7th will remain completely closed till further orders. However, online education of these classes will continue.
