Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Nagpur unit on Saturday arrested a Tehsildar from Chandrapur district while accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a bricks manufacturer to issue a permit for excavation and transportation of soil. The arrested Tehsildar, Nilesh Niwrutti Khatke (36), was posted at Bhadrawati Tehsil office. An official of ACB said that the complainant was a resident of Chiradevi village in Bhadrawati tehsil and having bricks manufacturing unit. He had applied for excavation of 300 brass of soil from his agriculture land and paid a total of Rs 88,256/- challan to the government as royalty till December 10.
When the complainant approached the Tehsildar with the documents and requested for the permit, the officer allegedly demanded Rs 25,000/- as bribe from him. The man then approached ACB Nagpur office and lodged a complaint. The ACB officials verified the demand and arrested the Tehsildar red-handed while accepting the bribe at his office. A case under provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered at Bhadrawati police station against Nilesh Khatke. The ACB sleuths are conducting searches at the house of the Tehsildar. Under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Rakesh Ola, Addl SPs Milind Totre, Madhukar Gite, the arrest was made by DySP Yogita Chafale and staff including Ravikant Dahat, Anil Bahire, Amol Menghre, Nisha Umredkar and others. The accused tehsildar will be produced in the court on Sunday.
