The mortal remains of Group Captain Varun Singh was accorded a guard of honour on reaching state hangar in Bhopal from Bengaluru on Thursday. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan paid homage by laying a wreath on the mortal remains of Group Captain Varun Singh. Chouhan also met the family members of late Singh and consoled them. The mortal remains of Captain Varun Singh was taken to his residence. Chief Minister Chouhan also participated in this journey. He said that the nation can never forget the valour of Singh. He will live forever in memories of the State and the countrymen. Chief Minister Chouhan said that Group Captain Varun Singh was a true son of Mother India. The country, the State and Bhopal are proud of him. He defeated death many a times. He created new tales of bravery to protect the borders of the country. He is no longer with us today.
On behalf of the people of the state, I pay homage to the martyr Group Captain Varun Singh, CM said. Chief Minister Chouhan said that in order to keep his memories intact, such activities would be conducted by the State Government in consultation with the family of Singh, which would inspire patriotism for the coming generations. A Samman Nidhi of Rs 1 crore will be given to his family. Along with this, there is also a proposal to give a Government job to a family member. Public representatives and officers laid wreaths and paid tributes to Late Group Captain Singh at State Hangar. Medical Education Minister Vishwas Sarang and MLA Huzur Rameshwar Sharma, Collector Avinash Lavania, Additional Commissioner of Police Irshad Wali along with officers of military and paramilitary forces paid tributes. Group Captain Singh took his last breath on Dec 15: It may be noted that on December 8, Group Captain Varun Singh, the only survivor of the CDS helicopter accident, was undergoing treatment at the Sainik Hospital in Bengaluru. On 15 December morning, Group Captain breathed his last.
The last rites of Group Captain Varun Singh will be performed with full military honours on Friday at 11 am at Vishram Ghat in Bairagarh. Late Group Captain Varun Singh was serving in Wellington, Tamil Nadu where he stayed with his wife and two children. His father, Colonel K P Singh, retired from the Army, and mother Uma Singh live in Sun City Colony at Airport Road, Bhopal. Group Captain Varun Singh was a native of Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh. About 20 years ago his father built house in Bhopal. Tanuj, younger brother of Group Captain Varun Singh, is also a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy.
