NUMBER 4 Danish Malewar entered the arena when Vidarbha were precariously placed at 2-2 in 6th over of the morning. The young batsmen hit a defiant hundred from there on and with two fruitful partnerships took the team to safety against Jharkhand on opening day of their Round IV of their Elite Group A, Cooch Behar Trophy match at DY Patil Academy, Ambi, Pune on Monday. After electing to bat, Vidarbha boys were 259 for 6 wickets in 93 overs. Mohd Faiz (67*; 185b, 3x4, 1x6) and skipper Tejas Soni (5*; 22b) were holding the fort when stumps were drawn for the day. It looked like a bad decision to make first use of turf as Vidarbha lost two quick wickets. Both the openers were cleaned up by new ball bowlers.
Rohit Binkar could not score from five delivers and perished in the very first over to Sahil Raj while Siddhesh Kantode saw his woodwork disturbed by Jatin for 15-ball two. Malewar (104; 162b, 14x4, 2x6) mixed caution and aggression in his controlled knock. He and Abhishek Agrawal (40; 101b, 5x4) arrested the slide taking the team to 82. After Agrawal’s departure, he found an able ally in Faiz, who has joined the team after attending the India Under-19 camp. The duo added 90 runs for the fourth wicket before Malewar was adjudged leg before. Last match’s centurion Jagjot Singh Sasan (6) hit just one scoring stroke while Ashit Singh made 30 from 63 balls hitting five fours.
