District witnesses single-day COVID-19 recovery in double digit
Nagpur city witnessed second case of Omicron, the latest variant of the novel coronavirus, this time a 21-year old youth. The district had witnessed first case of Omicron on December 12 when a 40-year old man from Dighori had tested positive for this variant of COVID-19. The youth who tested positive for Omicron on Thursday also is asymptomatic. While talking to ‘The Hitavada’, Dr Sanjay Chilkar, Chief Medical Officer of Nagpur Municipal Corporation, said, “This youth, a resident of Nagpur had come from Dubai on December 18. His RTPCR report came positive on December 19. Since he had come from abroad, his samples were sent for genome sequencing to Pune’s National Institute of Virology (NIV), the report of which we received on Thursday.
NIV, Pune confirmed his Omicron test as positive. He is being treated at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Nagpur (AIIMS).” Dr P P Joshi, Professor and Head, Department of Medicine, AIIMS Nagpur, said, “The youth is asymptomatic and stable. We are taking all precautions and leaving no stone unturned while treating him. As per protocol, he will be discharged if his RTPCR comes negative on the 10th day from the day he tested positive for the coronavirus.” Nagpur district, on Thursday, witnessed single-day COVID-19 recovery in double digit. It has an impact on active cases as those have gone down below 50. With 10 persons becoming free from coronavirus in the district, the cumulative recovery reached 4,83,609. On Thursday, the 11th day, the district continued to maintain COVID-19 recovery rate of 97.94%. The active cases in the district have gone down to 49. Seven persons in the district have tested positive for coronavirus. Of the seven persons, Nagpur rural has registered three cases while four persons found positive in city. With these the cumulative figure of positive cases reached 4,93,780. Of the cumulative positive cases, 6,919 persons testing positive for coronavirus are not the residents of Nagpur district. Thursday was the 40th day when no death due to COVID-19 was registered in the district.
The death count stood at 10,122. Of the cumulative death number, 1,625 persons who died of COVID-19 were not residents of the district. The daily testing count in the district has gone up to 3,702. Nagpur rural’s testing reported marginal fall to 1,001. City has reported slight rise to 2,700 testing. With these additions, the cumulative testing reached 41,98,850. The samples examined through RTPCR were 3,123 while 579 were through Rapid Antigen Test. Apart from the samples of Nagpur district, the people from Nagpur and out of city approached various laboratories in Nagpur to get themselves examined. The samples came for examination at various laboratories in Nagpur.
These laboratories include two State-run hospitals including virology laboratory of Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (589) and Government Medical College and Hospital (546). The Central Government run, molecular diagnostic laboratory of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (213) too is there. One central Government run-institute National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (136) is also doing yeoman’s job. Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (0) and private laboratories (1,639) are also contributing. Some laboratories are doing Antigen (579) test.
