BHAVYASHREE Mahalle clinched her maiden gold medal as Nagpur district athletes reigned supreme in the State Cross Country that was held at Sangli on Sunday. Bhavyashree’s gold came in the two-kilometre run in Under-16 girls category. With the first place finish, Bhavyashree booked a spot in the Maharashtra State team for the first time for a national championship. Bhavyashree is a student of Pt Bachhraj Vyas School and a member of Nav Maharashtra Krida Mandal. She trains at Nagpur University’s Khelo India Centre and is also coached by Jitendra Ghordadekar. In the 10km run, Nagpur team accumulated 19 points to emerge as the overall champions in that group for third time in a row. Nikita Raut finished fourth while Prachi Godbole followed her to the fifth spot.
Both have been selected for the national meet to be held in Kohima. In the U-20 section 6km race, Nagpur took third spot. Among Members of the team were Monika Kullarkar and Pooja Panchbudhe who finished 11th and 13th respectively. Dr Sharad Suryawanshi, Gurudeo Nagrale, SJ Anthony, Umesh Naidu, Nagesh Sahare, Dr Sanjay Chaudhary, Shekhar Suryawanshi, Ramchandra Wani, Bunty Prasad Yadav, Principal Dr Vibekanand Singh, Archana Kottewar and others congratulated Bhavyashree and other teams.
