ON THE occasion of Christmas eve HCGNCHRI Cancer Centre, Nagpur has launched its ‘Bone Marrow Transplant Counselling Clinic’ for thalassemia patients followed by a fun-n-frolic celebration especially for paediatric patients suffering from thalassemia, blood cancer and blood cancer survivors. The concept of this programme was initiated by Dr Suchitra Mehta, Director HCG Cancer Hospital, Nagpur. Main attraction of programme was various performances by children who won battle against cancer. During the launch of counselling clinic, Dr Ajay Mehta, Director HCG Cancer Centre has informed that HCG Cancer Centre has been authorised by Government to provide free bone marrow transplant up to Rs 10 lakh with the help of Coal India Ltd as the only cancer centre in Central India. Soon the hospital will start treating needy patients.
Dr Nishad Dhakate, Consultant–Hematology & BMT said, “Till date hospital has done 11 bone marrow transplants with 100 per cent success rate and this gesture from Government will certainly help us in extending our services to the needy.” Venkateshwarlu Marapaka said that this clinic will certainly help patients to understand the treatment modality. The event was inaugurated by guest of honour Dr Winky Rughwani, Vice-President Maharashtra Medical Council and Dr Harish Warbhe, Director, Life Line Blood Bank. Dr Rahul Arora, Consultant Hematology & BMT was the key dignitary of the programme. Dr Kamaljeet Kaur, Sujit Khare, GM Marketing, Rakesh Rachhawar and Ambrish Modak were in organising committee.
