Seven dacoits enter house at midnight, rob elderly woman of gold and cash

A 72-year-old woman, living alone at Welcome Society in Dabha area, was robbed of gold ornaments and cash collectively worth Rs 2.50 lakh by a gang of seven dacoits at knife point in the wee hours of Thursday and Friday.
The midnight dacoity panicked the residents as despite intensified patrolling by Gittikhadan police the dacoits managed to flee the spot without any hindrance.
According to police, Anita Prabhakar Meshram, a resident of Plot No. 159, Welcome Society, Dabha, lives alone at her four-room house. Her daughter resides in the next lane with her family while son who is in defence services posted at Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.
The dacoits entered the house at 2.30 am after breaking open the door with a crowbar. After spotting Anita in a bedroom, they threatened her with a sharp-edged weapon. They tied her hands and legs with a saree and asked her about jewellery.
The desperadoes collected her gold bangles, ear rings, gold chain and Rs 11,000 cash and left the spot at around 3.10 am.
Anita opened her hands and alerted the police with the help of neighbours. Patrolling party of Gittikhadan police station rushed to the spot and alerted senior police officers.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Zone II) Vinita S, Sr PI Gajanan Kalyankar immediately rushed to the spot and inspected the crime spot. On the basis of information given by Anita, the police launched searches in the nearby area.
A police official said that the accused were interacting in Hindi language with North indian accent. CP Amitesh Kumar also took the matter on priority and directed officials of Crime Branch and local police station to immediately nab the criminals.
