SurgeonS at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College and Hospital gave a new lease of life to a 13-year-old boy from Katni who was denied costly treatment at a Nagpur-based private hospital due to poor financial condition of his family. Actually denial of treatment at Nagpur where the doctors mistakenly diagnosed him with cancer and asked the family to take him back, proved a blessing for the child, as he got necessary treatment in Jabalpur Medical College. Here surgeons refused cancer theory and operated out five tumors from his abdomen.

The boy was suffering from uncontrolled BP which was 200/120 and heart function (LVEF) only 20 percent when admitted to Medical College. At this tender age, the boy faced heart strokes. He belongs to a family of daily-wagers who had already spent around Rs 4 lakh in his treatment. After series of tests, Surgeons at NSCB Medical Hospital diagnosed the boy with Pheochromocytoma Paraganglioma Syndrome in which there is a tumor in abdomen which releases adrenaline leading to high blood pressure.

Surgeon Dr Sanjay Kumar Yadav told this newspaper, “The patient’s condition was quite critical due to continuous high BP and operating him with such condition was a big challenge. Fortunately, efficient Anaesthesia team somehow managed his BP during surgery and 5 tumors were operated out from his abdomen”. Surgeons team comprised Dr Sanjay Kymar Yadav, Professor Ashutosh Silodia, Dr Arvind Baghel, Dr Virendra Saytode, Dr Sanjay Rathore, Dr Pranav Azhagiri, Dr Harsh Namdeo and Dr Roshni Rai whereas Dr Gopal Singh Maravi, Dr Ashish Gupta, Dr S N Sharma, Dr Ravina and Dr Vibha were in Anaesthesia team.
