In connection with murder of Congress leader’s nephew, Raipur Police on Tuesday claimed to have nabbed three persons and also recovered the scarf used to strangulate the victim dead. “After the recovery of 20-year-old Jatin Kumar Rai’s body stuffed in suitcase from a well, police launched an extensive probe and arrested three persons based on the investigation findings,” said Additional Superintendent of Police (City) Lakhan Patle. Patle further informed that the arrested were identified as Pradeep Nayak (24), K V Diwakar (23) and Sujeet Tandi (19), all residents of Khamtarai.

Based on the information collected from the accused trio, police recovered a scarf used to strangulate Jatin dead, deceased’s mobile phone and his two-wheeler. Shedding more details about the chronology of the crime, ASP Patle further informed that Pradeep had hatched the entire conspiracy of Jatin’s murder and later involved Tandi and Diwakar in the crime. The transaction of Rs 20000 resulted in the murder of Jatin. On February 9, Pradeep called Jatin and asked the latter to bring a big-size suitcase for his journey.

As Jatin reached Pradeep’s house to deliver the where Tandi was present, they together consumed liquor. Under inebriated condition, Pradeep and Tandi strangulated Jatin to death by using his scarf and dumped his body stuffed in a suitcase into a Khamardih-based well. On the next day, Pradeep detailed the entire incident to Diwakar and gave him Jatin’s mobile phone, which was used to mislead police. When Pradeep was round-up by police for questioning, Diwakar sent a text message by using Jatin’s relative by using the phone of the deceased. During interrogation, Pradeep broke down and admitted of killing Jatin with the help of Tandi, said ASP Patle, elaborating that based on the collected inputs, Diwakar was also arrested. In this connection, Khamtarai police have registered an offence against the trio under Sections 34, 302 and 201 of Indian Penal Code (IPC), added ASP Patle.
