A YOUNG and fearsome pacer from Nagpur Umesh Yadav was picked in an Indian Premier League team for the first time by Delhi Daredevils in 2010. Life has come a full circle for the ‘Vidarbha Express’ as, now, an experienced India pacer Yadav was bought by Delhi Capitals at his base price of Rs 1 crore in the IPL 2021 auction on Thursday. The 33-year-old was released by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) after spending three years at the Virat Kohli-led franchise. Yadav made his debut against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2010.

He picked 6 wickets from seven games at an average of 30.66. From then onwards, Yadav did not miss a single season but played just two games last season bowling seven overs conceding 83 runs at 11.85 without any success. From his 121 IPL matches spanning eleven years, Yadav has collected 119 wickets at an average of 30.07 and an economy of 8.51 with the best figures being 4-24 (two 4-wkt hauls).

Apart from Yadav, all-rounder Darshan Nalkande is the only other Vidarbha player in an IPL squad. He has been retained by Punjab Kings. None of the four Vidarbha players in the auction — offie Akshay Wakhare, batsman Apoorv Wankhade and young pacers Saurabh Dubey and Nachiket Bhute could not generate interest among the franchisees.
