On the occasion of Narmada Jayanti, there was an atmosphere of celebration from morning till late evening with religious and cultural programmes held on Prakashotsav of Narmada in the district on Friday. Devotees offered chunri, shringar to holy river Narmada and district of prasad and bhandara were also organised. More than one lakh devotees worshiped at Retghat, Siddhi Ghat and Satdhara in Barman. Lamps illuminated entire Narmada coast. Narmada Jayanti was celebrated with great pomp in the district.
 
There was huge crowd of people at all major ghats on Friday as round of movement of devotees taking Chunri Yatra towards Narmada banks began a day earlier. Everywhere, people set up stalls to welcome devotees going to Chunri Yatra, Bhajan-Sankirtan and bathing the Narmada. At some places tea, water, snacks and fruits were distributed and elsewhere sharbat, kheer, pudding etc were distributed.
 
Due to continuous movement of devotees, speed of vehicles was also slowed on National Highway No. 44, Bhopal-Jabalpur National Highway No. 45, including State Highway No. 22, Narsinghpur-Chhindwara Highway. People from all the urban-rural areas of the district including various places in Sagar, Raisen, Damoh, Chhindwara district also reached Narmada banks to offer prayers to Narmada. From morning till afternoon, fanfare of Chunri-Shobhayatra continued.
