Municipal Commissioner Radhakrishnan B on Wednesday got himself inoculated against COVID-19 at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). He was administered first shot of Covaxin in presence of senior doctors and civic officials. Commissioner said apart from GMCH, Government has also made arrangement for vaccination of front-line staff in first phase at 20 hospitals in city. At GMCH, Covaxin is being administered while at other hospitals Covishield is provided to the registered front-line workers including Doctors, health care workers, officers and employees in health industry.
 
The second dose is administered after a gap of 28-days and Radhakrishnan has urged all identified front-line beneficiaries to get the jab and protect themselves and their families against COVID-19. Mayor for Crackdown in Markets: Meanwhile, worried over rapidly increasing cases of COVID-19, Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari took a review meeting on Wednesday at civic headquarters. He directed stepping-up monitoring in markets areas as people are blatantly violating norms of wearing mask and not adhering to social distancing. Civic officials should visit the labourer thiyas and masks should be distributed among them and they be told to keep safe distance. Similarly, it is being observed that traders are averse to wearing masks and hence Nuisance Detection Squad (NDS) teams should fan out in busy market areas and crackdown on violators. At the meeting, Mayor also directed civic officials to collect samples at Urban Primary Health Centres (UPHC) till 2 pm so that testing can be ramped-up.
 
The more the testing it will be easier for identifying the virus spread among citizens and also ensure contact tracing before is too late. He also urged Zonal Chairperson to urge the corporators to co-ordinate with civic officials for creating awareness among citizens for strictly adhering to COVID-19 norms. Health Club Raided: Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari on Wednesday raided a nutrition club selling health drinks and fined it for violation of Corona guidelines. The club was functioning at Old Subhedar Layout, Sharda Chowk, and citizens were being sold Immunity Booster Health Drinks. A small room accommodated a large gathering and it was found violative of guidelines. Additional Commissioner Ram Joshi, Assistant Commissioner of Hanuman Nagar Zone Sushma Mandge and team of NDS accompanied Mayor. Sumit Malik, who was running the Club, had claimed that there was no need to wear a mask after taking the extract and at time of Mayor more than 150 people had gathered in a small room of 450 square feet. None of them wore masks and did not observe social distance. A fine of Rs. 25,000 was imposed on Malik.
