Follow norms, Mayor to people during round of city

Dayashankar Tiwari, Mayor, took a round of the city and especially Itwari and Gokulpeth markets to ensure that people were following the appeal for ‘weekend curbs’ to contain spread of COVID-19. During the round, Tiwari appealed to the people to wear masks and follow social distancing norms. Accompanied by corporators of the respective areas, officials, and Nuisance Detection Squad (NDS) members, he interacted with people and vendors. He censured some of the vendors for not wearing masks, and people who were wearing masks in a way that it did not cover their nose. Later, speaking to mediapersons, the Mayor said that people had responded well to the appeal for staying indoors and follow ‘weekend curbs’.
 
“I must thank the people of Nagpur for responding positively to the appeal. I appreciate their co-operation in containing the spread of COVID-19. The shop-keepers also extended co-operation by keeping their shops closed. I appeal to the people to keep following COVID-19 safety protocols, and also keep extending co-operation tomorrow and next weekend,” he said. During his round, Tiwari said, he had appealed to the people and vendors to follow the norms and wear masks properly. However, he warned, those found violating the norms will face action and NDS will recover fine from them. Tiwari was accompanied by Shraddha Pathak, Chairperson of Gandhibagh Zone; Sanjay Mahajan and Manoj Chaple, corporators, during his visit to Itwari market. Sunil Hiranwar, Chairman of Dharampeth Zone; Sanjay Bangale, corporator, accompanied him during visit to Gokulpeth market.
 
NDS action against violators of norms NDS of NMC initiated action against people not wearing face-mask and also against owners of shops in non-essential services category for keeping their establishments open on Saturday. As per the official data, NDS imposed fine of Rs 50,000/- on a finance company in Yeshwant Stadium complex in Dhantoli as the establishment was open. Similarly, it took action against two more finance companies in Shankar Nagar and Ramdaspeth areas, a life insurance company in Akashwani Square in Civil Lines, a jewellery shop in Dharampeth, two bar-and-restaurants in Manewada Square, an electricals shop along Central Avenue, a meat shop for violating the order for closure. NDS imposed fine on two country liquor shops in Tathagat Square and Gittikhadan, a bakery in Gopal Nagar, a grocery store in Gopal Nagar, a shop in Sadar as there was violation of social distancing norm. In these 14 cases put together, NDS imposed a fine of Rs 1,62,000/-. Further NDS acted against people not wearing face-mask. In 86 such cases, it recovered fine amount of Rs 43,000/- on Saturday. From September 2020, the total fine recovered by NDS from violators of COVID-19 protocols is a whopping Rs 1,54,41,000/-.
