IN ADHERENCE to the clarion call given by United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU, Nagpur Chapter) a cluster of nine bank unions i.e. AIBEA, AIBOC, NCBE, AIBOA, BEFI, INBEF, INBOC, NOBW and NOBO called for holding protest demonstrations all over the country on February 4, during lunch recess at respectively banks and after office hours against Government move to privatise banks.
In her Budget speech the Finance Minister has fixed a target of Rs 1.75 lakh crore to be mobilised through privatisation and disinvestment in FY 2021-22. She has also accused the PSBs of being laggards. This move of the Government is nothing but only to sell the national assets to select few corporate houses.
UFBU will be meeting at Hyderabad on February 9, 2021 to discuss and chalk out further agitation programmers including strike actions. The matter has also been taken up with unions in LIC and GIC to work out a broader coalition and enlarged protest programmes.
AIBEA has termed the Governments decision to privatise two public sector banks as unfortunate and totally unwarranted. The demonstration was organised and conducted by Jaiwant Gurway, General Secretary, EMBEA. He explained the ill effects of privatisation of banks. More than 500 members belonging to the unions registered their presence and participated in demonstration.
Suresh Bobhate, Joint Convener and President of EMBEA addressed the gathering and asked the comrades to show solidarity against anti workers and anti customer policies of the Government. Subash Samdekar, State Secretary MH-II AIBOC, also addressed the gathering.
