National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Janakrosh have joined hands to make a short video clip on road safety, in Nagpur. Noted actor Dayanand Shetty (‘Daya’ of CID tele-serial) will feature in the clip. Shetty was in the city on Thursday for the video clip. Addressing the mediapersons, Shetty said that road accident was a sort of crime that was a result of human error. “It is necessary for us to follow road safety rules for our own safety, just as we follow societal norms and etiquettes,” he said.
Shetty also visited Dr Hedgewar Smruti Mandir, Reshimbagh on Thursday. Ravindra Kaskhedikar, Secretary of Janakrosh, told mediapersons that the video clip was being prepared to create awareness about road safety among people. From January 18 to February 17, Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has been observing ‘Road Safety Month’. Janakrosh distributed pamphlets of appeals of Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways; implemented road safety campaign at Regional Transport Office, organised ‘No Honking Day’ initiative, street-plays etc to create awareness among people. During the year 2019, India lost 1,51,113 lives in road accidents.
Of these victims, 68 per cent were in the age-group of 18-45 years. Riding/driving in high speed, riding/driving after consuming liquor, riding/driving wrong-side, jumping traffic signal, speaking over mobile phone while riding/driving were the reasons behind these accidents. Around 67 per cent of road accidents occurred due to high-speed riding/driving. In most accidents, casualties were mainly because the two-wheeler riders were not wearing helmets. Janakrosh appealed to the people to use helmets and regulating speed of vehicle.
