Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has issued an advisory regarding usage of Table Favipravir, saying it should not be prescribed to patients who do not have symptoms of COVID-19. Patient not showing symptoms are advised home quarantine after having tested positive for the virus. State Government has issued a new advisory after taking stock of feedback about shortage of medicines needed to counter the novel coronavirus outbreak. The State has now said that the medicine are not to be given to patients whose symptoms are very mild.

A meeting of the Task Force Committee was held in the Corona War Room at the civic headquarters at Civil Lines, recently. In last few weeks there has been a steep rise in number of positive patients in city where second wave of novel coronavirus is raging havoc. Still one soothing fact that majority of the new patients are having either no or very less symptoms. Still as per protocol, many of the patients were prescribed the antibiotic leading to its shortage in the market. To ensure that the medicine is available when needed most by patients with high fever and strong symptoms, a new advisory was issued by NMC.

At the meeting, Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari and Municipal Commissioner Radhakrishnan B directed civic officials to ensure that State Government guidelines are strictly adhered to and avoid unnecessary distribution of the antibiotic. Acting on the directives, Dr Sanjay Chilkar, Medical Health Officer, NMC, issued written instructions to all clinics and Health Officers updating them about the new directives from State Government. The Health Officers were instructed to relay the guidelines to field team and RRT. Under Coronavirus Outbreak Prevention Measures, RRT Medication is provided by the team to positive patients undergoing home isolation. The teams check on the positive patients under home isolation and provide them counselling and distributed the medicines. Now in light of fresh guidelines from State Government, the distribution of Tablet Favipravir is discontinued.
