Remdesivir doesn’t help every patient, said Task Force

Unlike the impression the common public has that doctors are rampantly using Remdesivir injections for all those testing positive for COVID-19, the Task Force of doctors on Thursday told Divisional Commissioner Dr Sanjeev Kumar that only judicial use of the injection would help. All the doctors echoed the opinion that giving Remdesivir to each and every patient would only harm. They also unanimously said that all patients are going for the HRCT after they test positive for the virus which is a very wrong step. Most patients have started advising doctors regarding admissions to hospitals.

Dr Sanjeev Kumar, who himself is a medical doctor, is constantly coordinating with the team of doctors. In fact, forming Task Force is his idea which is helping Nagpur to not to let the situation go berserk. Today, he had convened a meeting of Task Force comprising Dr Milind Bhrushundi, Dr Rajan Barokar, Dr Nirmal Jaiswal, Dr Rajesh Gosavi. Most patients getting admitted claiming that their CT Scan score is very high. There are several patients who don’t need hospitalisation. Task Force members pointed out, “Most times patients or their relatives insist that Remdesivir should be given. But all patients don’t require the same. There are certain stages, certain conditions where only Remdesivir works.” Expert doctors of the COVID Task Force appealed people not to get panic and cooperate during the treatment.” Dr Sanjeev Kumar said, “As soon as the symptoms of coronavirus appear don’t ignore and check immediately without wasting time. Vaccination should be preferred as we have enough stock of vaccination doses. The people should cooperate with the administration without fear.

The administration’s top priority is to handle the situation of corona.” Dr Nitin Raut, Guardian Minister, informed, “Arrangements are being made by the district administration in cooperation with Government as well as private hospitals to increased availability of beds. Efforts are being made to bring oxygen from Bhopal, Bhilai and other places.” “Patients insist to give only remedisivir injections during treatment. Misunderstandings between relatives and the public need to be dispelled as injections are not available.

Therefore, without insisting on this single injection, medication is being given priority as per COVID protocol,” suggested Dr Milind Bhrushundi. As the number of coronavirus infection patients is increasing in slums and other areas, tracing, testing and treatment have been given priority in such areas. The people should participate in the vaccination campaign and everyone above the age of 45 should be vaccinated, appealed Dr Raut. Vaccination has started at all the centers as two lakh doses have been received for vaccination. Although there are restrictions due to the unlock process, there are no restrictions on the public going to the vaccination center for vaccination, Dr Raut clarified.
