Showing sympathy and care towards starving stray cattle, some good samaritans came forward and started providing green fodder to cattle. On Thursday, these people arranged green fodder for cattle near Naudra Bridge. A number of stray cow, ox were seen eating fodder. When asked Ankit Jain and Shobhit Singhai said they have been arranging fodder for stray cattle since last four days and will continue till the lockdown ends. Stray cattle normally depends on leftover of hotels, restaurants, dhabas and roadside eateries.

As such establishments are closed due to lockdown, stray cattle are left with no food. Hence, to provide food to starving animals, members of some social organisations have made arrangements at Naudra Bridge. Last year, Jabalpur Municipal Corporation had made the same arrangement at Tilak Bhumi Talliya during lockdown. Although it was proposed to extend the arrangement to 10 places in the city, but it could not happen. Likewise, the civic body had also made a store-house behind the workshop at headquarters and appealed to the citizens to donate fodder. But, after continuing arrangements for a few days it had stopped the same and left stray cattle on God’s mercy.

After one year, similar situations have arose and a number of cows, calves and ox are seen roaming on roads in search of food and water. As summer is at its peak and temperature is soaring over 40 degrees Celsius, conditions are proving costly to stray cattle. It has become necessary that stray cattle must be arranged with green fodder and water everyday so that they could survive till present conditions continue.
