An IT engineer was robbed of his newly purchased XUV 500 car and mobile phones by three persons. Shockingly, the victim had offered lift to the accused when they told him that they were unable to reach their place due to lockdown. A police officer of Wathoda police station informed that complainant Ajay Hanumanayak Panugotu (23), a resident of Flat No. 304, Satya Residency, Hyderabad, works as an engineer in an IT company based in Chennai. Panugotu and his friend had gone to Delhi to purchase a second-hand XUV 500 car.

When they were travelling back to their place, three persons approached them at an eatery near Gwalior. They reportedly told the youths that they are drivers on commercial vehicles, and unable to reach their place due to lockdown. The good samaritan youths offered them lift. After having dinner at a dhaba near Nagpur, the youths resumed their journey. On Saturday at 10.30 pm, the accused asked the youths to stop the vehicle on pretext of attending the nature’s call.

Within a minute, the three men came back and one of them pointed a revolver on Panugotu and threatened him to kill. After snatching the vehicle’s key, mobile phones and laptops, the trio sped away after pushing Panugotu and his friend out of the vehicle, police said. The youths approached Wathoda police station and lodged a complaint. Police have registered a case under Sections 392 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code against the unidentified trio and started investigation.
