INDIA Inc. is proving to be very alert to the needs of the current moment and is gearing up to lend a helping hand to the Government’s efforts. Many a corporate company has stepped forward to start manufacturing medical-grade oxygen in existing facilities. Some corporates are also known to have stopped the production of their mandated items only to accommodate the need of the current moment to produce medical-grade oxygen. This is mark of good citizenship, for which India Inc. needs to be appreciated. In the past as well, the Indian corporate sector has stepped forward to lend a helping hand in times of national needs. Not only has it offered rich monetary donations to national causes but also has offers its technical know-how and technological facilities to fulfill some of the critical requirements the nations faced from time to time. India’s corporate sector, actually, has a rich legacy of helping national causes. Indian industrialists and entrepreneurs made signal contributions to the cause of Independence even when the then British rulers were trying to crush those initiatives. That legacy is continuing even today.

Many such incidents keep coming to light every now and then involving the same script -- elders scolding the kids for something and the kids killing themselves in angry response. A few years ago, such unfortunate incidents took place very rarely. But of late, their numbers are swelling. This is certainly a bad social trend, which all of us are needed to do something to fight. A deep and comprehensive thought is needed to build a right mental make-up of our youngsters. There is something amiss in our sanskaars. We must examine again the flaw in our upbringing of the youngsters so that they do not feel compelled to take the nonsensical extreme step of committing suicide. This is not alarmism. This is only an attempt to caution the society for a lurking danger of growing numbers of teen-age suicides for absolutely flimsy reasons. If ignored, this trend may one day assume a menacing proportion. Hence the word of caution.
