City witnesses fall in deaths due to coronavirus
Though on fifth consecutive day, Nagpur district has recorded rise in COVID-19 recovery rate, it has also registered close to 8,000 new cases, a all-time high. The district reported torrent of new cases as 7,999 came positive for novel coronavirus, with 8 persons are not the residents of Nagpur district. Nagpur rural has registered 2,755 new cases while 5,236 persons tested positive for the virus in city which is also the highest number till now. This has taken the cumulative positive cases to 3,66,417. Of the cumulative positive cases, 1,181 are not the residents of Nagpur district. More new cases is also the outcome of multiple testing by people. Most people are visiting various testing centres to get their test confirmed. These number are adding to the total creating scary atmosphere. Though the recovery is a bit, it assumes importance during this pandemic.
Today, 6,264 persons became corona-free in Nagpur district taking the cumulative recovery to 2,84,566. The recovery has witnessed the rise as it stood at 77.66%. With people are not in a mood to listen to anybody, most after testing positive for the virus are rushing to the hospitals leading to rise in active cases to 75,002. The death count due to COVID-19 in the district on Saturday remained same-- 82. Of the 82 persons who died of due to the virus, 8 were not the residents of Nagpur district. Number of COVID-19 death count in Nagpur rural has increased to 35 while city has witnessed fall in death count by 15 to 39. With these the cumulative death count reached 6,849, of the cumulative death count, 999 persons were not the residents of Nagpur district. The testing count in Nagpur district has increased by 1,000 to 25,300. Nagpur rural has reported 8,341 testing and city has registered 16,959. This has taken the cumulative testing count to 21,33,696.
The samples examined through RT PCR were 17,151 while 8,149 were through Rapid Antigen Test. Apart from the samples of Nagpur district, the people from Nagpur and out of city approached various laboratories in Nagpur to get themselves examined. The samples came for examination at various laboratories in Nagpur include virology laboratory of Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCH) (2,015), Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) (1,963), molecular diagnostic laboratory of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) (1,704), National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) (282), Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) (662) private laboratories (10,525), Antigen (8,149).
Very important things to remember n If one’s COVID-19 test is positive, don’t go for another for confirmation. You already have it so start isolating and get ready for treatment as per the advice of your physician n Don’t get chest CT scan in initial days of symptoms unless your doctor suggests n Don’t repeat CT scan yourself, picture can be worse even after treatment n No test needed to check if you have become negative unless required for your official purpose n All those tested positive for the virus can stay together, even those who got cured last month and later tested negative n Lactating mothers with mild to moderate symptoms can continue breast-feeding with mask and hand hygiene n Children mostly have mild symptoms which can be managed with simple medications for fever and cough n Fever, bodyache will persist despite medications, kindly bear for few days and don’t rush to your doctor for it again and again in isolation period n Don’t approach hospital for routine check-up n Don’t wear mask below nose. Cover the nose, mouth completely n Don’t rush after Remdesvir, Toclizumab Fabiflu etc n The only smart thing you can do is to keep a check on SpO2 levels and temperature n No dietary restrictions. Eat whatever you want, avoid ice-cream, cold drinks, take diabetic and hypertensive diet as before n Don’t get vaccinated for COVID-19 for minimum 6 weeks ideally 8 weeks after you are cured.
