Former State Cabinet Minister and Guardian Minister of Chandrapur district, Sanjay Deotale passed away in Nagpur on Sunday afternoon. He was 58. He was admitted in a private hospital in Nagpur a week ago after he had tested positive for COVID-19. On Sunday, his oxygen level dropped dangerously and he suffered a cardiac arrest and breathed last around 2.15 pm. Sanjay Wamanrao Deotale started his political career as a Zilla Parishad member of Madheli-Nagri Circle in Warora tehsil in 1991.
After the death of his uncle and former State Cabinet Minister Dadasaheb Deotale, Sanjay Deotale contested and won Assembly election in 1995 for the first time from Warora-Bhadravati Assembly constituency. He then got re-elected from Warora-Bhadravati constituency in 2000, 2005 as well as 2009 as a Congress party candidate. He was the Minister for Environment and Cultural Affairs in 2012 in the Cabinet of the then Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan. He had contested Lok Sabha election in 2014 but had to face defeat.
Deotale had contested 2014 Assembly election on BJP ticket but lost. In 2019 elections, he had joined Shiv Sena but had to face defeat again. Few months back, he had again joined BJP. Late Deotale was presently the President of Gramin Shikshan Prasarak Mandal. He leaves behind two brothers, three sisters, son Karan, daughter Krutika, and a host of relatives to mourn the loss.
