“As per the preliminary information, five troopers have martyred and 12 others have sustained injuries in the gunfight. Some outlaws have also been eliminated. Body of a woman outlaw was also recovered,” confirmed DIG (Anti-Naxal Ops) O P Pal

AT LEAST five security personnel attained martyrdom while a dozen of others sustained injuries in a pitched gun-battle with the Left-Wing-Extremists (LWEs) on a forested patch in restive Bijapur district on Saturday. Some outlaws are also believed to be neutralised during the exchange of fire. Confirming the face-off, a top rank police officer informed that the skirmish broke out on a forested patch close to village Junagarh (along Sukma and Bijapur district border) when a joint squad of the security forces was out to carry out anti-insurgency operation.

Based on specific inputs, a joint squad of the security personnel belonging to District Reserve Guard (DRG), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Special Task Force (STF) and Combat Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) was out to carry out anti-insurgency operations in Maoist-infested areas under Tarrem police station limits on Saturday. While the security personnel were passing through a forested patch near village Junagarh between Tarrem and Silger, Naxals hiding behind trees opened indiscriminate fire upon them, following which the security personnel also launched retaliatory attack. During the face-off, five security personnel attained martyrdom while about a dozen others sustained injuries. Body of a woman outlaw was also recovered from the encounter spot.
