After inspecting the ongoing desilting work at Police Line Takli lake, Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari asked officials to undertake feasibility study for widening of the lake. The lake that was on verge of decaying is being revived after Union Minister Nitin Gadkari provided Rs 50 lakh from his Constituency Development Fund to Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to take-up the beautification and development work.
On Friday, Mayor visited the Takli Lake and was briefed by officials about the ongoing desilting plans and how they plan to restore the natural beauty of the surroundings. I-blocks will be affixed around the lake to create a walk path so that citizens can have a quality time. Once developed, the Takli Lake will surely add to scenic spots of city. Incidentally, the area around the Takli lake is dotted with lush green cover and once the lake is resorted to its original status, the spot would be an envy for other area that are longing for same intervention for restoration of dying lake in there areas.
Also a entry gate and a compound wall too will be constructed to prevent throwing of garbage in the lake area. The surrounding area will be properly levelled and smoothened and bushes that have sprang up after the area was abandoned would bring back memory of old times.
A 3 meter wide footpath is also planned to be developed and the dumped soil will be removed and area thoroughly cleaned. NMC also plans to construct toilets in the South-Western part, repair the foundations of the lake, etc.
Tiwari asked civic officials to study whether the lake area can be extended and if so what will be the cost and if the idea is feasible. He also asked them to consult city police officials while finalising details for beautification around the lake.
After receipt of feasibility report about expansion the proposal will be taken-up with Gadkari and if he okays then funds would be no issue. It may be recalled that once upon a time the Takli Lake was used for breeding fishes and that was later distributed among policemen families.
Sanjay Mahajan, Chairperson, Medical Health and Services Committee; Sunil Agarwal, Bhushan Shingane, both corporators; Harish Raut, Assistant Commissioner; Girish Wasnik, Executive Engineer; Resident Police Inspector (RPI) Police Headquarters Vijay Pratap Singh; Mahesh Bokare, Divisional Sanitation Officer; Munna Thakur and Anil Awasthi were also present during the visit of Mayor.
