A young tigress was found dead near a nullah at Kharagpur-Bhajiyadand Road in Waraseoni Forest Circle in a suspicious condition on Friday.
Forest authorities denied the reason of death and said that it would be revealed after post-mortem report. The area comes under Kanha-Pench Tiger Corridor. Autopsy suggested that the tigress has died of poison. Teams from Kanha Tiger Reserve and National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) reached the spot with dog squads to investigate the case. The tigress was about 2.5 years-old.
Yashpal Mehra, Waraseoni Forest Circle Officer, said that locals of the area witnessed tigress carcass near Kinahar nullah of Rajiv Sagar Dam on Friday morning. They informed about the carcass to forest officials and then team reached the spot.
Locals of the area said that the tigress has been given poison in water. Last rite of tigress has been conducted as per the NTCA guidelines and samples have been kept preserved for further laboratory testing.
