Picnic turns into tragedy: Two teens meet watery grave in Ambala lake in Ramtek

A picnic turned into tragedy when two teenagers drowned in Ambala lake near Ramtek on Wednesday. The youths drowned while swimming in the lake, police officials said. The deceased were identified as Nisarg Prabhakar Wagh (18) and Kunal Ashok Neware (18), both residents of Ravi Nagar, Nagpur. According to police, Nisarg, Kunal along with Abhinav Jichkar, Pranay Wasnik, Tanmay Kumbhare and Laxmimant Bambalwar, are students of Standard XII. As the government has eased Covid curbs, the youths planned a picnic on Tuesday.
A four-wheeler was booked by them through a mobile app and they went to Ramtek early Wednesday morning. As entry to Ram temple and nearby picnic spots is prohibited by the police, the youths parked their vehicle near nakabandi point and reached the lake through jungle. Nisarg, Kunal, Abhinav and Laxmikant venturned into the deep water of the lake at 8.30 am. After swimming for some time, the four started drowning into the water.
Laxmikant caught Abhinav and pulled him out of the lake. While Nisarg and Kunal drowned in the waters. Staff of Ramtek police led by Police Inspector Pramod Makeshwar rushed to the spot and called SDRF. Body of Nisarg was fished out from the water. The search operation was stopped in the night hours and it will be resumed on Thursday. The body was sent to the government hospital for post-mortem. A case of accidental death was registered by Ramtek police.
