Special Branch (SB) of City police on Wednesday detained an Afghan national for staying illegally in Nagpur for the last 10 years. The 30-year-old man has gunshot wounds on the shoulder and he was following some terrorists on social media. Acting on a tip-off, the police officials were keeping watch on the activities of Noor Mohd Ajiz Mohd. He was living in a rented accomodation in Dighori area.

The police checked his social media accounts and learnt that he was following some terrorists whose videos of gun firing available on the platform. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Special Branch (SB) Dr Baswaraj Teli informed ‘The Hitavada’ that the man came to Nagpur on a six months Visa in 2010. Later, he applied to United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for refugee status. His application was rejected. He registered his appeal with UNHRC but that was also rejected by UNHRC. Since then, he was staying at Nagpur illegally. He was in a business of selling blankets, the DCP said and added that he was following some terrorists on social media. Sources informed that the man is unmarried and living in a rented accomodation.

He has entry and exit wounds from a gunshot near left shoulder. The police are interrogating the man to find whether he was directly connected with terrorist organisations or not. A section of officers believe that the man could be a sympathiser of the Taliban. A battle was going on between North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and Taliban in 2010 when the man moved to Nagpur. Therefore, he was thinking that forces from outside are coming to his homeland and became a follower of terrorists connected with the Taliban on social media. The police will register an offence against the man after detailed inquiry and he will be deported to Afghanistan soon. The police have also conducted searches at his rented accomodation, but found nothing suspicious so far. His call details are also under the scanner of the police. Cyber Police Station under the guidance of Sr PI Ashok Bagul monitored his social media accounts and provided assistance to the investigation.

Brother in terrorist organisation Sources claimed that original name of Noor is Abdul Haque. His brother was working with Taliban. Last year, Noor had floated a video on social media with a sharp-edged weapon.
