Beltarodi police have arrested a woman fashion designer who demanded a Rs one crore ransom from a doctor couple against the safety of their children. The police have arrested Sheetal Itankar (46), a resident of Manish Nagar, on the basis of a complaint lodged by Dr Tushar Sadashiv Pande (48), a resident of Pioneer Residency, Somwalwada. Sheetal’s husband is an engineer in BSNL. Dr Tushar’s wife is also a doctor and both of them have a hospital called Utkarsh Maternity Home in Jaihind Society.
On June 11, Tushar received a letter by courier. “If you want to see your daughter and son safe, you will have to pay a ransom of Rs one crore. If you do not pay the ransom, they will face dire consequences,” the letter stated. Dr Tushar approached the police and lodged a complaint. The police immediately started searching for the courier sender. Upon checking CCTV footage, the police noticed a woman riding a moped numbered 9593. The investigating officials then followed the moped through CCTV installed on the streets and found that the two-wheeler had gone to the Manish Nagar area. The Police started searching for the moped numbered 9593 in Manish Nagar.
The cops found the moped on Tuesday night and arrested Sheetal on Wednesday morning. The police produced her in court and obtained her police custody till July 19. Under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) (Zone IV) Dr. Akshay Shinde, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Nilesh Palve, the arrest was made by Senior Police Inspector Vijay Akot, PSI Vikas Manpia and staff including Tejram Deole, Avinash Thakre, Randhir Dixit, Shailesh Barodekar, Milind Patle, Vandana Lote, Gopal Deshmukh, Kamlesh Ganer, Bajrang Junghare, Nitin, Prashant Sonulkar, Rajendra Nagpure, Kunal Landage, Deepak Tarhekar and Mithun.
