Now, the curiosity about who would take over as Vice-Chancellor of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) has reached its peak as the Search Panel has shortlisted five candidates. Two candidates among the top five are from Vidarbha. One is highly qualified Dr Deepak Raut who has vast administrative and academic experience in the health field and another is well-known pathologist and Fellow of Academy of Medical Sciences Dr Nitin Gangane. The tenure of Dr Dileep Mhaisekar ended in April this year. With him Dr Mohan Khamgaonkar, Pro-Vice-Chancellor too had to demit the office. Both Dr Mhaisekar and Dr Khamgaonkar gave a different face to the university. The five names that have been shortlisted by the panel include Dr Madhuri Kanitkar, Dr Ajay Chandanwale, Dr Nitin Gangane, Dr Aarti Kinikar, Dr Deepak Raut. Raj Bhavan has already sent individual mails to the candidates.
They will face interview on Monday July 5, 2021 at Raj Bhavan in the afternoon. Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari will conduct the interviews. Prof Deepak Raut is Director and Director- Professor, National Institute of Public Health Training and Research (NIPHTR). Dr Raut is from Nagpur who has done his MBBS and MD from Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). He did his post graduation in Preventive and Social Medicine (PSM). Prof Raut has held top posts on Central Bureau of Health Intelligence, All India Institute of Hygiene and Public Health, Dean of Maulana Azad Medical College. As the head of the institute being Director of NIPHTR, Mumbai, dealt with administrative, financial, policy and service-related matters of officers and staff of National Institute of Public Health Training and Research. Regularly supervise various heads of the sections, divisions, Course Coordinators and committees for effective and smooth running of the programs and functioning of the institute.
Dr Raut has very vast experience of academic and administrative processes. Dr Raut is known for his meticulousness and discipline. Dr Nitin Gangane, is the Dean of Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Sevagram and Director, Professor of Pathology. Dr Gangane is Fellow of Academy of Medical sciences by National Academy of Medical sciences (India) under Ministry of health and family welfare, Government of India. Dr Nitin Gangane is an alumnus of Sewagram Medical College and rose to became its Dean. It is a rare thing that a student is taking education in an institute and then becoming Dean of the same institute. Dr Gangane is from Wardha.
