ANTI-CORRUPTION Bureau (ACB) obtained a day’s remand of Sunil Kalbande, Deputy Commissioner of Skill Development, Employment and Entrepreneurship Department, for his custodial interrogation, on Saturday. Kalbande (55) was caught red-handed by ACB officers while demanding and accepting a bribe Rs 25,000 from a senior clerk of his own department by promising him promotion to officer grade and posting at Chandrapur. The senior clerk, who is attached to the Office of Assistant Commissioner of Skill Development, Employment and Entrepreneurship, Chandrapur, had allegedly approached Kalbande requesting him to ensure that he was not transferred from Chandrapur.

 

The clerk had also sent a request letter to Mumbai Office to get promoted to junior skill development officer in February this year. After some days, Kalbande called up the clerk demanding Rs 25,000 by assuring him that he would be promoted and posted at Chandrapur office itself. Following a complaint lodged by the clerk, bureau officers trapped Kalbande and arrested him on charges under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Bureau officers produced Kalbande before the Special Court and obtained a day’s remand for his custodial interrogation. Kalbande’s residential premises in Amravati was being searched by bureau officers. The wealth amassed by the accused, including the movable and immovable assets, was also being assessed by the bureau.
