ON THE occasion of World Drowning Prevention Day (July 25), JD Sports Foundation will be organising a workshop on drowning prevention under its ‘Drowning Prevention Awareness Programme’ at CAC-Allrounder Adventure, Ramtek on Sunday. General Secretary of JD Sports Foundation and international open water swimmer Jayant Jaiprakash Duble is the organiser of the workshop.
 
In the workshop, two lectures will be conducted. In the first session, Dr Jaiprakash Duble, Former Joint Director, Sports Department Government of Maharashtra and international swimming coach will give lecture on life saving skills. The most common cause for deaths due to drowning is lack of knowledge of first aid like CPR etc. In view of this, the second half of the workshop will be conducted highlighting first aid. Amol Khante, Director of CAC-Allrounder Adventure will talk on first aid and will present demonstrations.
 
An estimated 2.36 million people drown every year in the world. The number of drowning deaths in the world ranks third among those who die in accidents. About 90 per cent of these accidental drowning deaths occur mainly in rivers, lakes, wells and passenger boats. According to National Crime Bureau Report 2018, everyday 83 person die due to drowning.
