Railway passengers in Jabalpur will no longer have to be worried about ferrying their heavy luggage to and fro at the railway station. The Jabalpur Rail Division is going to start a pilot project of ‘packers and movers’ services being offered exclusively for railway passengers in Jabalpur. The Jabalpur division will introduce an app-based doorstep pick-up and drop facility named ‘Bag and Baggage’ for the convenience of passengers. Western Central Railway, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Vishwaranjan, while talking to ‘The Hitavada’, informed that WCR is always committed for ensuring convenience of its passengers. Continuing the tradition, an exclusive facility of ‘Bag and Baggage’ will be soon started as pilot project from Jabalpur.

 

The service will be outsourced but railway will ensure the safety and security of passengers’ luggage through dedicated mobile application. They are also planning to provide the same service for transportation of house hold commodities from one to another city or state. Railway has invited tenders to kick-start the service in next couple of months”. The senior DCM further added that through an app, passengers will have an option to choose the pick-up and drop point of their luggage.

 

The Jabalpur division will hire a private agency for the project. In return, the hired agency will pay a fixed sum of money to the division. Once checking the viability of service, the same will be started in other divisions. Along with facilitate the passengers, Bag and Baggage Service will also generate new employment opportunities for porters. Jabalpur division has made it mandatory for the hired agency to avail the services of porters.
