West Central Railway (WCR) has taken a series of measures to conserve energy. West Central Railway under the guidance of General Manager Shailendra Kumar Singh and Chief Electrical Engineer has installed LED lights in 285 stations to save energy. WCR’s 60 stations are being developed to provide illumination lux level lightning seen at the airport. Similarly, LED lights have been installed at railway colonies and railway offices of Western Central Railway. As a result, West Central Railway saved 54.22 lakh units of energy in 2020-21. Besides, WCR has installed self-actuated platform light system at 31 stations.
When the train will enter a station, the platform lights will switch on automatically. When the train will leave a station, 70 percent of platform lights will switch off on its own. By adopting the technique of self-actuated platform light system, WCR saved 2.24 lakh units of electricity. For conserving energy, WCR has installed 1mega kilowatt solar plants at Jabalpur Station.
At Ratanghat station of Bina-Katni Railway Block, a solar plant of 5 kWh has been installed. Another 2.5 kW wind hybrid system plant has been installed at Shivpuri station of Bhopal Division. Moreover, submersible pumps of 18Hp have been installed at railway stations and Railway colonies. The submersible pumps are operated by solar energy. WCR installed 1.44 Mw rooftop solar plants and saved 45.5 lakh units of energy In the year 2020-21. Thus, WCR saved around 1 crore unit of energy in a year.
