The scientist of Bio-Technology Centre, Jawaharlal Nehru Agriculture University (JNAU) developed Charoli saplings (Chironji in local language) through Tissue Culture technique and planted the same in the reserved forest area. The plants will have favourable environment for growth and development through this technique. The Bio-Technology Centre, JNAU has planted Chironji Saplings at the reserve forest area Chitri in Panagar circle with the support of Forest Department under ‘Collection and Characterisation of Chironji Germplasm in Reserve Forest and it’s Multiplication with Tissue Culture’, a funded project of Department of Bio-Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. These saplings have been planted in the reserve forest to provide favourable environment required for its’ growth and multiplication.
It may be mentioned that the plants developed through tissue culture technique are of high quality, free from pests and diseases and capable of bearing early fruits. Centre Director, Dr Sharad Tiwari, Project Researcher, Dr R S Sharma, Dr Shivram Krishnan, Dr Stuti Sharma, Centre’s Scientists, Dr Keerti Tantvay, Dr Namrata Dwivedi, officers from Forest Department, DFO Anjana Suchita Tirkey, SDO, Mukesh Patel, range Officer, Vivek Patel and Forest Guards were present.
