DMIMS, Sawangi (Meghe), Wardha, in terms of publications tops in Maharashtra, ranked 4th largest contributor in the country
Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences (Deemed to be University), Sawangi (Meghe), Wardha, has turned out to be a key player in the domain of research publications in leading Indexed Journals pertaining to Covid-19 in various dimensions. By bringing out a record number of 138 scientific publications in the said period it has created a benchmark in its own right. In a recent survey that has been brought out with respect to research publications in Indexed / Peer Review Journals in last 18 months, Indian contribution has been a total of 6,223 publications which were generated by 21 premier research generating institutions in the country of which 13 are from public sector and 7 are unaided private institutions. In terms of number of publications, highest contribution came from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi (427) followed by 309 publications from Postgraduate Institute Chandigarh closely followed by 171 publications by Saveetha Institute of Medical Sciences, Chennai.
Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences (Deemed to be University), Sawangi (Meghe), Wardha, in terms of the contribution from138 publications has been ranked as the 4th Largest contributor in the country. However, amongst private institutions it ranks 2nd after Saveetha Medical Institution. Subsequent tally credited to institutions is D Y Patil University, Pune (132), Indian Council of Medical Research, New Delhi (109), Manipal Academy of Higher Education (107), NIMHANS, Bangalore (100), Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute Lucknow (97), AIIMS, Jodhpur (93), Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai (91), Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi (90), King George Medical University, Lucknow (86), University of Delhi (82), AIIMS, Rishikesh (81), Bhaba Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (72), Amity University (66), Vardhaman Mahaveer Medical College, New Delhi (66) and Christian Medical College, Vellore (63). Amongst the key contributors from the State of Maharashtra which numbered 4, Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences (Deemed to be University), Sawangi (Meghe), Wardha, topped with 138 publications as against 132 by D.Y. Patil University Pune, followed by Tata Memorial Centre Mumbai (91) and Homi Bhaba Atomic Research Centre with 72 publications. In terms of the national picture in the category of unaided private institutions Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences (Deemed to be University), Sawangi (Meghe), Wardha, ranks 2nd in a total array of 7 unaided institutions contributing as a whole. Amongst the 138 publications brought out by the University in a short period of 18 months on Covid-19 pandemic, a comprehensive systematic review of 30 research studies with a huge sample size of 2327 titled “Spectrum of Initial Computed Tomography Findings in RT-PCR Positive patients with Corona Virus 2019 Disease- A systematic review of 2,327 cases by Dr Gaurav Mishra, Dean, Interdisciplinary Sciences of the University and Consultant Radiologist along with Dr Mahalaqua Quazi and Dr Zahiruddhin Quazi as Co-Authors with him which turns out to be a systematic review of one of the largest sample size, which is a record in itself. Internationally speaking the highest number of research publications numbering 23,608 came from United States of America followed by 10,356 from China, 10,002 from United Kingdom, 8,454 from Italy and 6,223 from India whereby India ranked 5th in terms of its contribution to the total tally of Global Research Publications pertaining to Covid-19 pandemic.
When contacted Dr Vedprakash Mishra the Pro-Chancellor of the University said, “The research team of the University under the able guidance of Dr Zahir Quazi, Director Research, worked out with various research workers in an integrated manner on various aspects of the Covid-19 pandemic.” It was done under the patronage of Sagar Meghe, Member, Board of Management; Dr Rajiv Borle, Vice-Chancellor and Dr Lalit Waghmare, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University which borne fruits in an exemplary manner. The work is continuing and many more scientific publications are under way. University has been able to invoke a desired research work culture in the University with appropriate incentives, patronage and recognitions which have really acted as a required fillip whereby the benchmark stands created, added Dr Mishra.
