Pilot project launched in Dharampeth Zone n Nagpur is first city in State to use such a technology
Plugging the gap in garbage collection in city and to bring in transparency, a QR code system was rolled out on pilot basis in Dharampeth Zone on Thursday. Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited (NSSCDCL) and Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) have launched Smart Waste Management System. Under this, QR code stickers are being affixed on the houses of the citizens and start is made with 10 houses in Marar Toli and P&T Colony in Ravi Nagar area of Amravati Road on an experimental basis. This innovative new system is introduced to address the complaints received by civic body about gaps in daily collection of garbage from homes. As per the new arrangement, a garbage collector will scan QR code on mobile and weigh the garbage. For the first time in Maharashtra, this QR code system is started in Nagpur city.
This arrangement will allow garbage to be picked up from the homes of the citizens on pre-determined days and bring in much-needed transparency in the garbage collection system. Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari on Thursday visited these ten houses and interacted with the citizens and got information about QR code from the company’s representative. Citizens appreciated the NMC’s initiative and along with Mayor saw the demo when a garbage truck arrived and the conservancy staff scanned the QR code at a house, took the garbage and weighed it and put it in the garbage truck. Mayor also presented certificates to citizens and thanked them for co-operation with the staff of NMC and Smart City. Tiwari said, QR code system would address complaint from corporators and citizens that sanitation workers are not collecting garbage from households or are not coming on time.
Now, it will be possible to resolve grievances through Smart Waste Management System. The house number, the name of the home owner will be received by the authorities concerned. Speaking on the occasion, Digvijay Yenurkar, Director, Bugs Free Solutions Pvt. Ltd., said, NMC will get the information whether the sanitation envoy picked up the garbage or not. This arrangement will streamline the waste collection process. At this time, Dr Gajendra Mahalle, Nodal Officer, Sanitation Department; Dindayal Tembhekar, Zonal Officer; Vishal Kothari, Sridhar, Kartik Ojha and Hiren Pathak, all representatives of Bugs Free also were present.
