In past four years, some national-level institutes have come to Nagpur. Somehow, none figured in National Institute of Ranking Frame(NIRF) work that declares its ranking every year. But Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Nagpur that too has come along with others, made an exception. The NIRF has announced its ranking on Thursday, and IIM-N stood 40th among all the management institutes of India. Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) stood 30th while it secured 11th spot among Architecture institutes. Smt Kishoritai Bhoyar College of Pharmacy secured 46th rank among Pharmacy colleges while Institute of Science stood 61st in the country and first in Maharashtra. Institute of Forensic Science secured 88th spot while third in State.
In Engineering colleges category, VNIT with 30th, Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering and Management 119th, G H Raisoni College of Engineering 130th, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University’s Laxminarayan Institute of Technology (LIT) 136th, Yashwantrao Chavan College of Engineering (YCCE) 149th are the institutions from Vidarbha figured in the ranking. Dr R G Atram, who was recently transferred from Institute of Science to Institute of Forensic Science contributed immensely in building up the institutes as Director.
Dr Sanjay Thakre, present Joint Director of Higher Education at Nagpur was the in-charge of Institute of Forensic Science who played a major role in the growth of Forensic Science Institute. The hard work of the team under these two leaders resulted into the top ranking of both these institutes. It was during the regime of Dr Atram that the institute got long-pending autonomy. Dr Anjali Rahatgaonkar who has taken over as Acting Director has started giving momentum to several projects of the institute.
