Admin issues flood alert in district, 8 out of 11 medium dams have 100% water stock

Due to heavy rainfall in last few days, most of the medium dams in Nagpur district have 100% water stock which is posing a threat of flooding in catchment and nearby areas. Wena, Kanholibara, Pandrabodi, Chandrabhaga, Mordham, Kesarnala, Umri and Jaam reservoirs in the district have touched the 100% mark, where as Sayaki and Khekranala dams have 96% water stock. Similarly, the major dams like Totladoh (86%), Navegaon Khairy (79%), Wadgaon (94%) and Nand (76%) reservoirs of the district have good water stock. According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), a cyclonic circulation lies over East Rajasthan and neighbourhood and extends upto mid-tropospheric levels. Another cyclonic circulation lies over Gangetic West Bengal and neighbourhood and extends upto mid-tropospheric levels. A cyclonic circulation likely to form over Eastcentral and adjoining Northeast Bay of Bengal around September 25.

Due to these weather activities, fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy falls very likely over Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh during next four days. Keeping the situation in mind, the district administration has issued flood alert and appealed people to shift their agriculture machinery and livestock from the low lying areas to safer places. The administration informed that the water has started overflowing from the medium dams through small rivers and nullahs which is going to be create a threat for citizens in next couple of days.
 
The administration appealed villagers and citizens to avoid to cross flodded rivers and nullahs; Avoid outing during heavy rains; Avoid taking shelter under dilapidated shades or constructions during heavy rains; Avoid crossing any bridge which is full with flood water; and avoid any rumours. Flood affected people and needy persons can contact 0712-2562668 or toll free number 1077. Nagpur district, so far, received above normal rainfall with 107%. Four Tahsils in Nagpur district are still have rainfall deficit but it is hardly impact the overall monsoon this year. Though Umred received just 91.76% rainfall so far, Pandhrabodi (100%) and Sayaki (96%) reservoirs have almost 100 per cent water stock till date.
