The picture is enough to show the reality of Narendra Nagar RuB after a heavy rain. The commuters are using the footpath to cross the water-logged road under the RuB which has now become a common thing.

Water-logging under the Narendra Nagar Railway Under Bridge (RuB), after every rain, has become a common scene for the city. The heavy rain for about one hour on Thursday afternoon again water-logged the Narendra Nagar RuB resulting in traffic jam on both sides of the Ring Road for hours. Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), some time ago, tried to solve the water-logging issue of the RuB. But, the situation remained the same. Prof Dr Yashwant Bhasker Katpatal, Professor HAG, Department of Civil Engineering, Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), said, “Proper study and operational mechanism are needed on part of administration to solve the issue. The civic authority must appoint technical expert to solve the issue.”
The people of Nagpur are getting used to it without holding the authorities responsible. but no one are interested to find out the exact reason behind the water logging. As per Dr Katpatal, “Water logging is not due to nullah nearby, but due to surface runoff, seepage of groundwater and drain water.” Water was seeping through wall of the RuB and flowing towards Chhatrapati Nagar end of the under-bridge. There, water remained accumulated. So far, only closing traffic through the half-submerged RuB, or clearing water-logging by way of pumping out water have been the only measures taken from time to time by the authorities. Whether they will study the issue in detail, considering technical aspects, then just the issue will get solve. Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall for next few more days in Vidarbha as well as in Nagpur city. In last 24 hours Nagpur received 34 mm rainfall including the sudden heavy spell of Thursday afternoon.
Though the intensity of the rainfall on Thursday was high, the limited areas of the city experienced it. Water logging were occurred at Jhansirani Square, Padole Square, Manewada Square, Medical Square etc. Akola (19 mm), Washim (16 mm), Chandrapur (7 mm) and Yavatmal (1 mm) also received light rains on Thursday whereas the other places in Vidarbha were dry. The maximum temperature in most of the places on Thursday were above 30 degree Celsius. Amravati, Washim and Yavatmal recorded below 30 degree Celsius on Thursday.
