TO COMMEMORATE the birth anniversary of Savitribai Phule, considered to be the pioneer of India’s feminist movement, a felicitation programme was jointly organised by Zilla Parishad Education Department and Women and Child Development Department. City’s national swimmer Vaishali Pande (Dhurve) was among those who were felicitated by Sunil Kedar, Sports Minister of Maharashtra on the occasion. Vaishali, Headmistress at Zilla Parishad School, Kuhi Mandal (Chichada), who swam from Elephanta to Gate of India, Mumbai in the Arabian Sea, covering a distance of 16 kilometre with her family to register her name in Asian Book of Record and India Book of Record, was honoured for her daring feat.
The minister feted her with a shawl a shreephal and a memento. Rashi Barve, President, Zilla Parishad; Yogesh Kumbhechkar, CEO; Sumitra Kumbhare, Vice-President; Ujjwala Bodhare, Chairman; Bharti Patil, Education Chairman; Additional CEO Kamalkishore Futane, Vivek Ilme, Project Director were prominently present. Pramod Wankhede and Dinesh Masodkar and others congratulated Vaishali for the honour.
