Budget Dialogues 2022, a three-day event, was successfully organized by National Youth Parliament. Founded by Kartikeya Goel in 2019, the National Youth Parliament (NYP) is becoming a major movement in India, with the youth wanting to participate in a civilized debate on the issues of nation building.
Founded in 2019 the NYP is an initiative to give the youth in India a platform to discuss, debate and deliberate on social, economic, and political issues facing India. Budget Dialogues 2022 commenced with the unveiling of the Economic Survey and online Halwa Ceremony on January 9. This was followed by a two-day Budget session held online on January 10 and 11.
Budget Dialogues 2022 is a unique initiative, where more than 5,000 school students from 100+ schools across India had participated in the preliminary stages. Among them, the best 150 school students were selected as School Student Parliamentarians. These student were assigned different ministries and mandated to prepare, present, and deliberate on a model Union Budget of India from the perspective of school students.
Setting the agenda for Budget Dialogues 2022, Kartikeya Goel noted: “This is our second consecutive Budget Dialogues; the first was held in January 2021. We feel that the Union Budget for 2022-23 is extremely crucial for India. By concentrating on developing skilled manpower, and reliable infrastructure, the provisions of this year’s budget could lay the foundations for India to regain its position as a Global Economic Powerhouse.”
As the Finance Minister, Eshanvi N Preetam, a student of Meridien School, Hyderabad successfully convinced the house that the model Youth Budget would lay the foundation for making India a Global Economic Powerhouse. Her budget proposal was built on the Economic Survey presented by the Chief Economic Advisor, Devanshi Sood from Heritage Xperiential Learning School, Gurgaon.
The model Union Budget reflected the optimism of the School Parliamentarians. Riding on tax collections that remained buoyant despite the pandemic clouds hanging over the economy, the School Parliamentarians passed a budget that laid impetus on capital expenditure to ride the impending capex cycle.
At the end of the Budget Dialogues session, Mehak Yadav, Secretary General, NYP and a panel of experts declared the winners of Budget Dialogues 2022.
